Here’s a sentence we never expected to type: Josh Ramsay is scoring our movie. Yes, that Josh Ramsay. The frontman of Marianas Trench. The vocal acrobat behind “Call Me Maybe” made famous by Carly Rae Jepsen (yes, he co-wrote and produced that monster hit). The platinum-certified, pop-rock wizard who can write a hook so catchy it haunts your dreams for a decade. That guy? He’s composing our Christmas rom-com set in Mexico.
What happened? Did we win the Canadian creative lottery? Did we find a genie in a poutine cart? Who cares. It’s real, and we’re still picking our jaws up off the floor.
The Call (Maybe)
It all started with a casual conversation — one of those “hey, you know who would crush a holiday film score?” moments. Someone tossed out Josh’s name half-jokingly. Next thing we knew, I said, “Actually… I know Ian,” (Marianas Trench’s drummer, shoutout to our mutual service industry past). A message was sent. A show was attended.
And then, boom — Josh dropped a demo reel on us that made our eyeballs sweat. Sweater Weather? More like Scorer Weather. The guy doesn’t just write music, he paints in sound. Within a few scenes, he was already building emotional arcs through melody better than most composers do after reading ten drafts.
Two Worlds, One Score
A Caliente Christmas lives in two very different sonic worlds. Seattle in December — gray, moody, introspective. Think rain-slicked sidewalks and lonely late-night rideshare confessions. Then we jump into the color-soaked, sun-drenched energy of Jalisco, Mexico — salsa rhythms, family chaos, tequila (both emotional and literal).
Josh immediately got it. He sent us two original tracks within days that felt like they'd always belonged in the film. One captured the bittersweet warmth of Seattle’s Christmas blues. The other — a spicy, vibrant Mexican-flavored holiday bop — had us dancing in the studio and seriously considering adding a dance-off scene. (We won’t. Probably.)
But Wait — He’s Not Done
Now, here’s where it gets even better. Not only is Josh scoring the entire film, he’s writing and producing an original song for the film’s climax — a musical moment designed to completely destroy your tear ducts.
Who’s singing? Oh, just our A-list Latina lead, who we can’t name quite yet (but trust us — you’ve seen her on stage, on screen, and probably on your cousin’s playlist). Josh and our lead actress will be collaborating to create the kind of original song that lives on Spotify long after the credits roll. We’re talking Holiday playlist mainstay energy.
He’s also pulling double duty as our Ballroom Vocalist in the film’s opening scene. Picture this: a moody hotel ballroom, a solo piano, a holiday crowd, and Josh Ramsay setting the tone with a smooth-as-sin croon. We wrote the role before we even dreamed he’d say yes. Now? It’s his.
Christmas Came Early
Look, we’re a scrappy, ambitious studio with big ideas and even bigger heart. And the fact that a generational talent like Josh Ramsay is now leading the musical heartbeat of A Caliente Christmas? That’s the stuff film dreams are made of.
We couldn’t be happier. We couldn’t be more blown away. And we genuinely can’t wait for the world to see — and hear — what Josh is building with us.
If you hear someone scream-crying in a theater next Christmas, it’s probably us. Or someone reacting to the duet. Or both.
Stay tuned — this is just the overture.
